School

Each student has one swimming lesson per week and the teacher in charge is Judy Grant with teaching assistant Gail or Helen. The communication session is run by Enid McCracken assisted by pool and school staff. Each student has an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) based on a scheme of work for each class which is subject to review each term:

Autumn term
Swimming skills, swim/walk for distance

Spring term
Water games, ball skills, gentle completive swimming and swim/walk for distance

Summer term
Personal survival (which includes the wearing of life jackets) and an annual swimming gala.  Students work towards certificates and badges. Some are nationally recognized e.g. ASA and STA and some David Lewis School awards.

College

College students choose to access the pool sessions during college term time. Sessions are staffed by college and pool staff.  Students work towards nationally recognized certificates as well as David Lewis Centre certificates.

Adults

Adults also choose to access the pool sessions.  In many cases a carer will swim with an adult which offers far more flexibility and opportunities for increased attendance.  Adults can also work towards nationally recognized certificates.
