How do we do it?

Assessments for young people are carried out on an outreach basis.  Occasionally an Outreach Assessment may indicate that a young person may benefit from a residential assessment in which case, once approved, their residential assessment will be arranged by our admissions team.

The multi- disciplinary team involved in a young persons assessment may include:

  • Paediatric Neuropsychology
  • Paediatric Neurology
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Speech and Language
  • Other clinical professionals such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Behaviour Management  etc.
  • Education
  • Nursing
  • Care

All our team have experience of working co-operatively across the boundaries in order to achieve the best for the young person.  Some are full time and based at our specialist Assessment and Treatment Services in david lewis; many others work jointly between the NHS, PCT's and david lewis.

Paediatric Neuropsychology is provided by Dr Nigel Colbert, Consultant Paediatric Neuropsychologist who is based at the Centre.  Paediatric Neurology is provided by Dr Tim Martland, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist who is based at The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital but has weekly sessions at the Centre. He is assisted by Dr Margaret Huyton, Associate Specialist who is based at the Centre.

Results of assessments are discussed with parents and professionals involved with the child.
