Behaviour Management

All our patients have multi disciplinary Care Plans developed in conjunction with the patients, their family and other care professionals including the psychology team to identify specific behavioural issues and to develop strategies for managing them.

Behaviours that challenge services:

    Aggression to self or others,
    Violence,
    Impulsivity,
    Sexually inappropriate
    behaviours,
    Self-injuring behaviours,
    Extreme social disruption,
    Damage to property,
    Absconding.

During assessments we also monitor and observe behaviour in order to identify any correlation with seizures. From the initial assessment we can then develop a behaviour management strategy that best suits the individual’s needs and offer advice on future management. As part of the process we also observe mental state so that we can identify and address any underlying mental health needs. As you would expect from a unit that is committed to person-centred care, we also review and evaluate our plans on a regular basis in order to meet the changing needs of those who stay with us.
