Frequently asked questions

Q - When can I visit?
A - You’re welcome at any time, but we prefer you not to visit too early in the morning or too late in the evening. During the week it’s always best to phone the AAU beforehand to make sure that your friend or relative is not away from the unit enjoying activities or leisure pursuits.

Q - Can I go home during my assessment?
A - We ask that you remain on the unit for the first two weeks of assessment or if you are undergoing any drug changes. Outside of these periods the team welcome requests for weekend leave and will assess them on an individual basis.

Q - Is the AAU like a hospital?
A - Although we do expect you to adhere to certain guidelines such as no alcohol, we have a very informal and relaxed environment. If you’d like to meet the staff and look around the unit and centre then you can arrange a visit prior to your admission.
