Types of Placement
Because of the very individual needs and circumstances of each of our pupils, it is very often the case that a pupil will need a very particular type of provision. Standard placements at the school are as follows, and will be used as the basis for designing individual provision if required.
52-Week Placements
This provides a place in a class in our school for the 38 weeks of the school terms, class sizes usually being four or five pupils. It provides an individual bedroom in one of the small houses of our Children’s Homes for the entire year. (Parents are encouraged to take their children home as much as their conditions will allow during the school holidays). With parental agreement, the school will provide an appropriate package of medical, nursing and therapy support to address each child’s needs.
39-Week Placements
This is a standard, term-time only, residential placement. Schools are required to ensure that their teaching teams receive at least 5 full days of professional development per year (“INSET days”). As many of our children live at a distance from the school it is not possible for them to return home for such days, and therefore for children on 39 week placements the school will provide 38 weeks of taught time in school, and an additional 5 days of house-based activities. A 39 week placement will provide a space in a class in our school, class sizes usually being four or five pupils, and an individual bedroom in one of the small houses of our Children’s Homes. With parental agreement, the school will provide an appropriate package of medical nursing and therapy support to address each child’s needs.
Day Placements
The school is usually able to provide a small number of day placements for children living in the local region. For children placed as day pupils, the school will provide a place in a class in school, classes usually being four or five pupils.
All placements provide individual support throughout the extended day (ie, 7.30 – 21.00 hrs) and extended (ie, 7-day) week.
