A Gift in Your Will
Jen Dale, sister to one of our residents, Ian, tells us why she is leaving a legacy to David Lewis.
"Some of my earliest memories are centred on the David Lewis. My parents decided that the only way my brother Ian could have an education was for him to be in residential school - there was no special education available in our local community. So he came to the centre to go to school and even now receives an education at the age of 71! He has access to college in the locality where he enjoys classes and company of other residents and able bodied students.
It is important to remember that there are not just people with complex needs but their families too and David Lewis has always made it clear that I was as important as Ian. When I was growing up and visited Ian I was made to feel part of his life in the centre, joining him for meals, watching shows in the theatre or just chilling out around the house or grounds with him. Now I visit and make good use of the family accommodation so am able to spend time with him even though I live 180 miles away.
I hope that my legacy can go some way towards giving other families the same peace of mind that my family has had and make David Lewis a positive experience for their child, brother or sister."
Leaving a gift in your will is a truly wonderful way to put your footprint on the future. As a charity, we have been able to fund some wonderful projects as a result of generous gifts left to the centre in wills.
Our new legacy pack is now available which will answer many of the questions you may have.
