Education-2.1.5_img1Transition

Transition activity is planned into programmes as you enter the final year of their School education.

This activity takes many forms, depending on what has been planned for the next stage. There are many progression opportunities for pupils leaving David Lewis School, one of which is progression to the David Lewis College.

As with any application to a College, an application form will need to completed and an assessment undertaken.

It is important that the next steps are discussed and explored well in advance of the end of the School programme. It is a statutory requirement that Connexions / careers advisers are fully involved in these discussions as they process applications and other required documentation. They will be able to provide information about the full range of options. It is important that all options are considered to ensure informed decisions are made.

Things to consider as your child moves from school to college:

It would be impossible to provide the answers to all possible questions in these pages as things change rapidly, however you should be asking these questions of the professionals as they provide advice during the process of transition.
  • What are the differences as you changes from receiving support from children´s to adult services?
  • What are the changes to funding?
  • Will you need to consider contributions to costs?
  • What are the changes to LAC monies, benefits (including transport), education maintenance allowance
  • Where can I get careers advice
  • Will I need to make arrangements for respite care at holiday times
