Our story began over 100 years ago, with David Lewis. Best known for his retail stores in Manchester and Liverpool, David Lewis was a successful business man. In his will, he left both his fortune and a wish… that his money be used to benefit the people of Manchester and Liverpool.
In 1893 the David Lewis Trust was founded by Benn Wolfe Levy, one of his executors. Two committees were then established, one for Liverpool and one for Manchester. Shortly after the trust was founded, a concerned group of people in Manchester applied for funding to provide a facility for people with epilepsy. This caught the imagination of the Manchester Committee, who then bought the land on which our main site stands.
David Lewis’ doors opened in 1904. Since then we’ve evolved dramatically. Today we provide so much more than a progressive education. We’re proud of our history. Yet we’re focused on tomorrow. Promoting a culture which places the individual at the heart of everything we do – our specialists help our students and residents be who they want to be.
